The Skittles Dress

When I look at this dress I immediately think of  and their Skittles motto "Taste The Rainbow".
I don't know why, I just do.
OK, I have sugar on my mind. I just started a diet and I must be having sugar with drawls, LOL!
Any way....
I wanted a fun dress for St. Patrick's Day. But also something that Aiyanna could wear any day.
I love making her knit dress and she loves wearing them.
Who wouldn't?! They are soooo comfy.  I'm thinking about making a few for myself  :o)

I was looking through my t-shirt stash and realized I had a rainbow of colors.

How could I resist a rainbow dress?  It's so HAPPY!!!
And even better I had everything I needed so it didn't cost me anything. YAY!!!

Now go raid the closets for some t-shirts. The red one needs to fit. The others can be any size as longer as they are wider than the red shirt.

Got your shirts?
Good. Let's get started!!!

Cut the red shirt 2.5" below the armpits.

From the orange, yellow, green, and blue cut a strip 3.5" wide.

Lay the shirts down in order.  Red, orange, yellow, green, blue.
Now it's time to cut the excess.

Your are going to cut 1/2" past the edge of the red shirt.  This will allow for the seam.

I cut it at an angle so it would be slightly A line.

Here's what it will look like.

Now you are going to sew the strips together as pictured above.
Make sure to line up the seam before you sew.
Iron all of  the seams down.

Next with right sides together sew the side seam.

With right sides together pin the red shirt to the strips.

From the purple shirt cut 2 strips each  4" wide.

Cut open a seam on each strip. Put right sides together and sew the short edges so you have a big circle of fabric.

Gather the fabric and pin it to the dress matching side seams.

Admire your HAPPY dress!
