First I want to thank y'all for sweet comments about my slippers.
A few of you asked for a tutorial.  I regret that I won't be able to do that.  Don't be sad.....I used a pattern.
It is Simplicity 2278. It has adult and baby sizes.
It wouldn't be right for me to give out a pattern that I purchased and claim it as my own.
If you do buy the pattern I would love to do a sew along here.
I have some tips and suggestions to share that I think make them better.

Speaking of patterns......
There are 2 things I really don't like about using patterns.
1. Cutting them out. When I purchase patterns I try to cut them out within a few days.
I know if I don't they won't get used! If I am ready to sew something and I pull out the pattern and it has to be cut I'll find another similar pattern or just do something totally different.
2. I don't like to spend time pinning the pattern to the fabric I'm using.  It takes to much time. I always end up having to repin it at least twice because of wrinkles or it's not straight on the grain of the fabric.

I finally decidedto do something about it.

I didn't take step by step pictures, but it is soooo simple.
I bought some washer at Home Depot. They are 5/8" galvanized.  They were $0.40  each.
I cut circles out of scrapbook paper to fit each washer.
Next I glued the circles to the washer and let it dry.
Next you are going to cover the paper with an even coat of Mod Podge Dimensional Magic.
Let it dry on a flat surface.
Once they are dry they are ready for use.

I like using them because they hold the pattern in place, but they are easy to move when I need to adjust the pattern.

Thanks to my pretty pattern weights I think I will be using patterns more often now!

Make Difference Monday {5}

This week I want to talk about something me and my children particiapte in.
 DREAMFEST
Our church has partnered with Helping Hands.
On the first Saturday of every month we go to the Atlantic Beach Community Center.
We give out groceries. Milk, juice, eggs, bread, dry goods, etc.

They also offer free hair cuts and health assessments.

It really helps families who can't make ends meet!

I help with the children.
While the parents are going through the grocery line we have activities for kids.
Sometimes we put on a play, coloring activity, games.
Just something fun for them.
On holidays we like to do something special for them.
At Christmas each child received a donated toy. For Easter we will be giving them candy.
I decided to make some TAGGIE BLANKET to give to the babies since they can't eat candy.
So far I have 9 made.

Ok, I know you are wondering what this has to do with you.
I am going to challenge you this week.
Make 1 or 2 taggie blankets.
Find a womens shelter or pregnancy crisis in your area and donate them.

Please come back and tell me about your experience.
I would love to hear!!!!

Cold Feet

The weather is just beautiful here!!!
Perfect for riding bikes, having a picnic at the park or playing in the sand at the beach.
If only the pollen would go away.  Everything outside is covered in a yellow film of pollen!
Since we can't open the windows we have been running the air conditioning during the day.
My sewing table is right over the vent so my feet freeze!
In the winter I like to wear those super soft and fuzzy socks. But in the warmer months they make my feet sweat.  So I decided it was time to make myself some pretty slippers.
I love them!!!!

I haven't taken them off all day! (well, except to take some pictures of them)
Aren't they pretty?!

I really like the flower I added.
I cut the piece out using my sizzix.

I have been admiring my feet all afternoon.
Is that crazy?

What I've Been Doing

I just realized I didn't post my Tuesday and Thursday projtects.
They go together so I guess it's better to post them at the same time any way.

I bet you have no idea what this is.
A friend of mine just became a Grandma. She had bought a bassinet for the baby.  She didn't like the mattress that came with it.She said it was only a 1/2" thick and was to hard. She asked me to make a new
matress for it.  And I gladly did so!

I bought a 2" thick flame retardant compression foam. I had to cut it down because they didn'thave it in the size I needed. I also bought some Baby Dri fabric to make the cover waterproof (a must for babies).

I left one end open and added velcro. That way if they want to wash it they can pull out the foam and throw it in the wash.

Because the matress is thicker I don't think the other sheets are going to fit so I made a couple.
Oh it's a boy.  Did the camoflauge give it away?

If you would like a tutorial just ask.  I didn't take pictures because they needed it quickly but I can draw  pictures. That might be better any way.

Have A Great Weekend!!

Recycle Those Magnets!

I had a bag full of little magnets.
You know, the ones that come on the front of phone books, magnetic business cards, etc
I have been saving them thinking I would find something to do with them.
Finally I figured out how to use them up.

A while back Grandma gave us some paper dolls when we were organizing the art room.
I have kept them put up because Aiyanna likes to rip up paper and I didn't want the paper dolls to get ripped up.
I glued the doll and clothes onto the magnets. After the glue dried I cut them out.

Now Aiyanna can play with them and I don't have to worry about them being ripped into tiny pieces.
It makes us both happy : o)

Another Update on Lilly

I just received an email from Lisa.
At 7:30 pm on Facebook Lilly's mom posted:
Please pray for Lilly. After at least 5 rounds of pain meds she is still in a lot of pain.
She has been screaming and crying since they removed the breathing tube around 3:30pm.
Please join me in praying for Baby Lilly.
And also for her mom.  It has to be soooo hard to see your baby hurting and not being able to do anything to help her! I can only imagine how physically and emotionally exhausted she is.

Lilly Update

Hey there!
I just wanted to give y'all a quick update on Lilly.
At 2:40 pm Lisa informed me that she made it out of surgery and is in the ICU.
The surgeon said everything went well!
She will be sedated for at least 24 hours to keep her still.

UPDATE! At 3:20 pm the were preparing to take her off of the vent.

I want to take a moment to thank all of you who took time to make her kimonos.
I also want to thank all for your prayers for this little girl!!!
Please continue to keep her in your prayers as she recovers.

Kimono And An Update

As I am writing this post Baby Lilly is in surgery!
I will keep you updated on how she's doing as soon as I know anything.
Lilly recieved 20 kimonos!  Y'all are awesome!!!!
You can read more about that HERE.
You can also see photos of each of them HERE.

I wanted to post some better pictures of Aiyanna's kimono.
The pictures that were posted earlier were taken late at night last night. Now that the sun is shining Iwanted to get some better pictures. Some pictures with Aiyanna wearing it.

I knew I wanted it to be a dress, because Aiyanna is such a girly girl.  She loves to wear dresses, lipgloss, and have her nails painted.

She also loves to pick flowers (or weeds).

And give them to everyone.

Including you.

We hope you enjoy your flower!

Lilly"s Big Day!

Today is sweet little Lilly's surgery.

I hope you will take a moment from your busy to say a prayer for her!
I pray for comfort and peace for her family and friends while they wait for word that the surgery went well.
I pray for alertness, guidance, and wisdom for the doctors and nurses who will be tending to Lilly during her surgery and recovery.
I pray that God will protect this sweet baby girl!!!!
I will pray for these things all day long!

I decided to make Aiyanna a kimono.
This way every time I look at my little girl it will remind me to pray for Lilly.

She is wearing it all day today!
I pray for Lilly's strength during the surgery and throughout her recovery.
I can't even imagine what the family is going through.
I've never met them, but their little girl has really made a big impact in my life!
I wish I could just hug them and tell them it's all going to be alright.
I will be {anxiously} waiting to hear how the surgery goes.
As soon as I know anything I will post it!

Do you remember this little boy?
He is in need of a kidney transplant. His family needs to raise $50,000 for the transplant.
