Super Simple Fancy Dress

I don't know about you, but I love fancy little dresses that look like it took me forever to make when in fact it didn't take much time at all.  This project is just that.

This was one of Aiyanna's Easter dresses. She had 3. We have a lot services Easter weekend. 2 Friday, 2 Saturday, and 8 services Sunday. We volunteer at all the services, so there is a need for sooo many Easter dresses. Anyway .......Everyone oohing and ahhing over it.  A lot of the ladies at church know I sew. The first thing they ask is if I made it.  When I say yes they think I'm pretty awesome  (I happily let them think that). If they only knew this how quickly I whipped this dress up and how little it cost me they would probably be shocked. The secret is a lacy skirt. Seriously, you can't get much easier than that!
Pretty, huh?
This is my new favorite dress.  I love that it's very vintage looking, yet is very fashionable.  A lacy maxi dress....what's not to love?!   I fell in love with this dress as I was making it. I'm not a Momma that likes to be all match-y with my daughter, but if I could find  that lace I would make myself an identical dress in heartbeat.

Wanna make one?
Go raid your closet for a lacy skirt.

The one I used was tiered, but it doesn't have to be. I just like it because it adds fullness. Aiyanna likes it because it's twirly.

What little girl doesn't love to twirl?

First thing I did was grab my seam ripper. And pull the lace, lining, and elastic apart.

Then I measured Aiyanna's chest to see how wide it needed to be.
I measured from the middle of the lining and marked where it needed to be cut.

Cut and sew.

Repeat with the lace.

Next I cut arm holes just like in the Pillowcase Dress Tutorial.

Next I put the lace and lining back together with wrong sides facing each other. Baste the edges.

Then I pinned the elastic to the top on the lining side.

Fold the elastic down and top stitch close to the bottom edge of the elastic.
It'll look like this on the front side.

Serge the arm holes.
If you don't have access to a serge you can sew a straight stitch and then zigzag the edges.

Fold the arm hole edge down and stitch close to the serged edge.

With the extra fabric I cut off earlier I made straps for the dress.
I cut 2 rectangles 4" wide and 6" long.
I didn't take pictures of the rest, but here's what I did.
I sewed the straps to the front of the dress.  Then I had Aiyanna put it on and I pinned the straps to fit correctly.  Then I made some fabric flowers out of a thrift-ed silk curtain and sewed them onto the one shoulder.  On the other shoulder I made a bow with satin ribbon.

We had a fabulous photo shoot with the dress!

Hope you have a HAPPY DAY!!!

Easter, a Garden, a Window, a Pin, and Staples

Hi everybody!
Please forgive my absence these past few weeks.  It has been crazy busy with the Easter holiday along with a few injuries add in.   I had started a vegetable garden with the kids.  I love gardening and have missed doing it the past few years.  I decided this year I would have one even if it was super small.  The kids have really enjoyed helping with the garden.  Every morning on the way to school Dakota has to check how the plants are doing. Dakota planted Peas, Red Onion, and Watermelon. And when he gets home from school he checks them again to see how much they have grown while he was gone.  I'm hoping us growing our own vegetable  will help him be more willing to try new things.  Aiyanna loves the garden too.  She planted Broccoli (the girl LOVES it), Banana Peppers, Garlic, and Carrots  She loves watering the garden!
I planted Cucumbers, Strawberries (aren't doing to good), green beans, bell peppers, yellow squash, and Mesculin Mix.

Here are some pictures I took when the garden was about 1.5 weeks old. Not everything was planted at the time.
     Green Beans                                              Garlic
                                                  Peas                                                 Red Onion

While turning the dirt I jumped on the shovel to dig down and banged my head on the metal corner of a window.  I went to the ER and had to have 5 staples put in.  They said I had a concusion. I have had really bad headaches and have been a little forgetful since. That was 2 weeks ago.
Last week was Easter which was crazy busy. Our church had 2 services Friday, 2 services Saturday, Sunrise Beach Baptism Sunday, and 8 services Sunday.
. I went non stop all week.  I had so many things to sew. Our church opened it's 3rd campus Easter weekend.  There was sooo much to do. I sewed all the panels for the stage back drop. sewed 6 screens for the prom decor for our local high school, worked on some wall panels for the children"s ministry
(which didn't get finished before the services), altered a vest for a dancer, and still have three pairs of pants to alter.  We were exhausted after the long week! Sunday evening we got home and passed out.
Monday we were at the hospital at 6AM.  My husband broke his collar bone 6 years ago and it never healed.
He finally went to the doctor about it and they said he need surgery to fix it.
They put a pin in his shoulder and did a bone graph from his hip.  He was sent home the same day. (I was shocked they wouldn't keep him at least overnight). The car ride home was very hard for him. He was in so much pain! It's been a couple days and he is still in a lot of pain.   Today his pain is the worst it has been so far.  I fell so helpless. I want so bad to do something to make the pain go away, but there is nothing I can do.  Well, except refill his ice pack when he needs it.
Needless to say it really has been crazy at our house.
I will probably be pretty scarce for the next couple weeks as I take care of my husband while he starts to recover.
Please keep my family, especially my husband, in your prayers!

It's finally here!!!
