T-Shirt Dress

This was supposed to be PJ's, but my daughter is determined it is a dress.  It could pass for a dress! She loves it probably beacuse it is so comfy or maybe because it says Coca-Cola on it.  She's good at talking Daddy into giving her some of his Coke or she goes and finds a half empty bottle and sneaks it. She can be sooo quiet when she's tryng to get away with something!

Supplies Needed:
  • Adult T-shirt
  • Elastic
  • Scissors
  • Thread
  • Sewing Machine

Cut your shirt to fit. I used my daughters pajama dress as my pattern.

Turn inside out and sew the edges you just cut.

Cutoff the sleeve hem, bottom hem, and neck binding.

Using a tight zigzag stitch sew the raw edges of the sleeves, neck, and bottom.  You can also serge using a rolled hem. Pull taut as you sew to create a lettuce edge.

Sew the ends of the elastic together. Mine is about 18" long. It could have been shorter though.

Pin the sewn part of te elastic to the middle back of the shirt.

Find the middle front of the elastic and shirt and pin it.

Pin elastic to each shoulder.

Here is what it will look like.

Sew the elastic using a zigzag stitch. Stretch the elastic as you sew to fit the shirt.

  2. Cute--I love how quick and easy this is. I think my girls could live in (or sleep in!) dresses like this all summer long! Thanks!
