I'm not much of a sweater person. They usually make me too hot or they are to itchy and I end up changing into a t-shirt in an hour or two. When I saw this sweater at my favorite thrift store I fell in love with the beautifully knitted snowflake and I couldn't resist picking it up.
I knew I would come up with some way to use it.
Turns out it was just the right length for a dress for Aiyanna.
First I had to do something with the turtleneck part of the sweater. As I was looking at it and trying to figure out what to do I realized there was a seam on the one side.
So I grabbed my little friend aka the seam ripper and took out the seam of the turtleneck.
Next I used the seam ripper to take the sleeves off.
I grabbed a dress from Aiyanna's closet and used it to get the length of the sleeves.
Then I laid the dress on top of the sweater and used it for my pattern. I cut it out leaving an extra 1/2" seam on each side for the seam allowance.
Sew up the side seams.
All that's left is to sew in the sleeves. Pin the sleeve to the dress with the right sides together and sew.
The sweater dress is adorable. What a wonderful way to keep warm and be a bit festive. I'd love it if you linked this project up at my Hip for the Holidays link party.
