New Grocery Bags



I have some reusable bags I bought at the grocery store a few years ago.  They have been used A LOT. The

handles are ripping and they just aren't pretty.  I particularly don't care for the store's logo on the bags. That just my personal preference.  When I saw THIS post by Tammy at She Wears Flowers I knew I had to make some.  I also remembered seeing some crocheted produce bags in a magazine that I really liked.  I wanted to make them but I don't know how to crochet (yet).  Well I made a produce bag similar to the crocheted one I had seen using a t-shirt.

Supplies Needed:

• Small Child Size T-Shirt
• Scissors
• Thread
• Sewing Machine

 

Here's the shirt I started with. Just a boxy child sized shirt.

*** An adult sized shirt gets really long when you fill your bag. The child size works much better!***

Cut through both layers just outside of the neck binding.

Then with the sleeves cut just inside of the sleeve seams.

Turn the shirt inside out. Sew the hem at the bottom of the shirt together.

Here's what it'll look like.

Fold the shirt in half as pictured above.

Starting at the bottom make little snips on the fold 1/4" deep. The snip should be 1.5" apart.

Make a new fold 1/2" from the fold you just snipped.  You are going to snip the shirt on this fold too. Snip in between the previous snips.  Again the cuts should be 1/4" deep.

Fold and snip until the whole shirt has slits cut.

Turn it right side out.  Now your ready to go shopping for some fruits and veggies!
