Denim Design Day 5

Denim Balls

It's been rainy here for the last few days so we have had to find fun things to do inside. I found a great pattern and tutorial for fabric balls at The Purl Bee. I am soooo glad I did.! The kids LOVE these and have played with these for hours!!!  This is a great way to us up some scraps and you can whip these up quickly. I made mine a little different then The Purl Bee. Here's how I made mine.

Supplies Needed:

  • Scraps of fabric

  • Pattern from Purl Bee click HERE

  • Poly-fil

  • Marking pen

  • Scissors

  • Sewing machine
Step 1:
Trace the pattern on to your fabric on the bias .
***Make sure to do this on the bias or you will end up with a wonky pumpkin shaped ball instead of a round ball***

You need a total of 8 pieces.  I did 4 light and 4 dark, but you can do any combination.

Step 2
Cut them.

Step 3
Put one dark piece and one light piece right sides together.

Step 4
Sew.

Step 5
Put another light piece right sides together on the dark piece and sew.

Step 6
Now put another dark piece on the light piece right sides together and sew.

You have made 1/2 of the ball.

Step 7

Repeat step 3-6 to make the other half of the ball.
Step 8
Put the 2 halves right sides together.

Step 9
Sew.  Leave an opening to turn it right side out.
***Back stitch at each side of the opening so the seam doesn't rip open when you are flipping it out.***

Step 10
Turn rightside out.

Step 11
Stuff with Poly-fil.
Step 12
Handstitch the opening closed.

Go have some fun!!!!

Even Daddy joined in the fun!!!
