Body Double

I do a lot of sewing at night after I put the kids to bed.  When I'm working on a project and need to try it  on Aiyanna  I go to see if sees awake. If she is I try on her and if not I have to wait until the next day.

Well I don't like to get her up out of bed because then it takes her that much longer to go to sleep. (She's the night owl).  I have been wanting to make a custom dress form for a long time now. So I decided making a double of Aiyanna was the perfect solution.

Here's what we did:

Here's the supplies you need.

Wrap the saran wrap around the chest. From underarms to do around the hips. 

Next wrap the shoulders with saran wrap.

Start duct taping over the saran wrap. 

You need to do the duct tape vertically and horizontally.

Half way there.

Now we are done.

Now for the tricky part. Time to cut it off. We started at the back of  neck. Stuck a couple fingers inside to put  some space between the tape and her body and started cutting. We did this the whole way down her back.  Just be patient and go slow.

Here's what it'll look like once you cut it off.

  

Align the back together and tape it with the duct tape.

Now for the arm holes.

We are just taping the hole shut.

Do the same thing for the neck hole.

Now for the fun.  Grab the spray foam and spray some in it.  Just enough to fill the bottom.

Let it sit for a couple of hours because it will expand.

Don't fill it up all at once or you'll have a big mess.  I'm speaking from experience :0)

 

Repeat the fill and wait until it is filled close to the top.

Here's what you'll have.

It was a little lumpy so I covered it with batting to smooth it out. I just hot glued it on.

Gotta love the hot glue gun.

Next I made a cover for it using some jersey fabric.

To make the cover I just pinned the fabric around the form until I had it snug then pulled it off and sewed.

Add a dowel rod and a Christmas tree stand.
