Sunglass Sleeve

Okay my scrap tub is overflowing so it's time to start using some of them up.

I got some new sunglasses (Thanks Mama) and I needed a case for them. I knew I could make one so instead of buying one I went to my scrap tub. I like mine much better than any I could have bought  :0)

Here's my new sunglass sleeve

Wanna make one???

Here's what you need:
  • scrap of fabric 4.5" x 16"
  • scrap of flannel 4.5" x 16"
  • scrap of fabric 4.5" x 2.5"
  • piece of very stiff interfacing 4.5" x 16"
  • velcro
  • thread

Lay interfacing on table. Then lay large piece of fabric on top. Right side up. Fold up 7" making sure right sides are together.

Sew 1/4" seam on each side.

At the corners sew a diagonal seam.

Clip 1/4" from seam.

Here's the easiest way to flip this since it is so stiff.  Stick your hand inside as pictured.

With your other hand push the bottom down inside. Grab it with the hand inside and pull it out.

Here's what we have so far.

Grab the piece of flannel (the lining), fold up 7", sew 1/4"seam. Leave inside out!

Put the flannel piece over the other fabric. Make sure right sides are together.

Sew the sides and the front.  Leave the top open so you can flip the lining.

Flip the lining out. It's a little tricky but it will flip.

Take your small scrap and fold it in half. Sew the sides with a 1/4" seam.

Flip out. Turn raw edge under 1/4" and press.

Slide this "tab" over the top raw edge.Stitch close to the edge.

Iron or sew on your velcro and your done.

  2. Nice tutorial! I always scratch my sunglasses, but tht's because I'm too lazy to use a case. lol I think if I cared enough though, I'd make sure to put the soft part of the velcro on the flap, just incase when putting my sunglasses in they got scratched by the scratchy side of the velco.
