Make Difference Monday {7}

It's time to make a difference again.

This week I thought it would be nice to do something for someone you know.

I have an Aunt Sandy. She recently had a stroke and now has to use a walker.

I can only imagine how difficult it is to try to keep her purse up on her shoulder when she walks.

I thought it would be nice to make a walker caddy for her to carry the things she needs to have with her.

Supplies Needed:

• 4 Squares of Fabric 11" x 11"
• 1 Square of Fusible fleece 11" x 11"
• Velcro
• 2 Buttons
• Ruler
• Marking Pen / Pencil
• Scissors
• Thread

Here is the fabric I chose to use. They are coordinating Home Decor fabrics.

The circles are for the back, the stripe is the pocket, the squiggly dot is for the outer pocket, and the square is for the inner pocket.

Grab the fabric for the pocket. Fold it in half and press.

Make a line down the front 4" from the side.

Make 2 more lines 1"apart as pictured above.

Pin your pocket on top of the front fabric and pin in place.

Sew down the lines you have drawn. Make sure to back stitch at the beginning and end.

Fold down the top 1" and press.

Pin Velcro to the part you just folded.  Make sure to leave 3/4" on either side of the velcro to allow for the seam allowance.

Sew.

Next grab your inner fabric. Pin velcro to the right side of the fabric.

To get the placement for the velcro I laid the other piece we just finished on top.

Sew.

Lay the fabrics one on top of the other as shown.

 

Now we are going to make the straps.

Fold each strap in half as shown.

Sew  leaving one of the short sides open.

Turn straps right side out. Press.

Pin the small straps to the top 1.25" in from the side. Baste.

Pin the long straps to the side . They should be 1" from the bottom. Baste.

Iron fusible fleece to the wrong side of your back piece.

Lay this piece on top of the pocket pieces. Right sides together.

Sew leaving a 3" opening.

Clip corners. Turn right side out and press.

Topstitch 1/8" from the edge.

Sew velcro to the long straps as pictured above.

 

On the top strap sew a button hole close to the end. Sew a button onto the top edge of the caddy.

Fold the strap down and button.

Now it's ready to be strapped to a walker and filled with the necessities.

So do you have a family member, a neighbor, or maybe some one at church who uses a walker?

I'm sure they would appreciate a walker caddy. Especially if it was handmade just for them!

This could also be used as a stroller caddy. I know as a Mommy I would have loved having something like this when I went for walks with the babies.
